I've had a few people call me lately asking what to do for a severe Crohn's flare-up so I decided to post my number one flare up remedy. I don't swear by many things....but this tea I definitely do. It's called umeboshi plum tea and it's super easy to make. I was first introduced to it while staying at the ki of life institute and have used it since. I've been doubled over in pain and have been able to walk again 30 minutes after drinking it. During a horrible flare I drink it every night before bed. If you do not have crohn's but are nauseous, have a headache, constipation, fever, or any other health issue, this tea will still work wonders. It is extremely medicinal so try to drink it only 2-3 times a week unless you are having a severe flare (or other medical issue). Below is a picture of the umeboshi plums. I buy them from naturalimport.com
To make, first boil enough water to fill a mug...do NOT microwave. Cut off a 1/2-1 plum and cut into tiny shreds. When water is boiling poor into mug and add plum. Then stir and drink. It will taste a bit sour and salty . If you have crohn's, chew the plums VERY good.
If you have diarrhea, try ume-sho-kuzu tea (shoyu optional). Kuzu starch can be bought at naturalimport.com and Whole foods. It looks like a white powdery starch. Measure out teaspoon and dissolve in room temperature water. Then, boil water, pour into mug, add a half a plum (or more) and a small dash of shoyu. The kuzu has a soothing effect on the intestine and is infamous for stopping diarrhea. If after one mug, it doesn't stop, repeat.
**If you are on the road, and are unable to make Ume-Tea you can actually buy ume plum balls. You put one under your tongue and it has almost the same effect (plus it gets rid of motion sickness). I also buy these at naturalimports.com (man this place should pay me for advertising).
